Savage Reign is another classic 2D fighting game on the neogeo. There are many fighting games on the neo, that one is decent, but controversial.
Graphics are kitch, like french fags would say, it's a hazardous melt between andy warhol on crack and achille zavata in streets of rage (one love for the joker).
It applies perfectly to the ingame sprites, but it doesn't make them less impressive anyway !
They're quite huge, their animation is honest, the moves are ok, as far as I'm concerned.
The main part of the gameplay would remind you about Fatal Fury, where there are fights on two different plans.
Of course you do remember that.
The atmosphere of Savage Reign is pretty unique. There is that little "thing", that keeps it out of the raging flames of the "that game is crap" voice, that terrible sentence that makes you think you would never buy it.
I have that sympathic feeling for these kind of games that doesn't gives me the envy of throwing my pad at the other side of the room screaming insults and stuff. It should mean it's not too bad afterall.
I screamed nothing with that one, only got curious and enjoyed the fight.
For the sound part, it's more or less what you would expect from a decent fighting game, with nothing terrible, but it's ok.
Ones would say that music themes will not stay in the neogeo collective memory neither, they're not really impressive, just ok.
Savage Reign, then again, is a decent fighting game, but it doesn't stand the comparison with the other famous titles on the neogeo
(king of fighters ??)
So, I guess we can just nod and utter, "next game please", while giving a small tear, that means : "well, thanks anyway, appreciate it but I'd like to play kof right now."
Savage Reign - Fu'un Mokushiroku: Kakuto Sosei was released for mvs, aes, and cd format, and its price has not gotten too high with time. You can still find it easily in any decent auction site, at a good price (for like 100 bucks).
